The Wells Mountain Initiative (WMI) is a public charitable foundation based in Bristol, Vermont, USA, working to create social change through education and community building. WMI provides bright young people in the developing world with student scholarships and skills training, building a network of grassroots leaders catalyzing community transformation.
SCHOLARSHIP DETAILS
Each year, WMI provides support to students pursuing various educational objectives. Financial support primarily covers tuition, school fees, and directly related expenses such as books and supplies. Scholarships are generally granted for the full period of study, with recipients required to maintain good grades, participate in community service, and meet WMI deadlines for submitting official course grades.
Scholarship Amount:WMI scholarships range from $300 USD (approximately E5,600) to $3,000 USD (approximately E56,600) annually and are provided throughout the undergraduate education of the recipient. While the maximum scholarship is $3,000 USD, the average scholarship amount is $1,500 USD (approximately E28,314).
Eligible Fields:Students pursuing medicine are especially encouraged to apply, as the scholarship is available for medical studies at institutions in the SADC region, including the University of Botswana and universities in Zambia.
Selection Process:Scholarship awards are determined by volunteer reviewers and the Scholarship Committee of the WMI Board of Directors, with recipients announced annually on August 1.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA
This scholarship is for students who meet the following criteria:
Age: Must be 35 years or younger on August 1, 2025.
Education: Must have completed secondary education with good to excellent grades.
Study Location: Must plan to study in their home country or another African country.
Degree: Must be pursuing their first bachelor's degree or diploma.
Career Goals: Intends to live and work in their home country after graduation.
Community Service: Must have demonstrated a commitment to giving back to the community through prior volunteer work.
Note: This scholarship is exclusively for students who are studying in Africa (either their home country or another African country). Students planning to study in the United States, Canada, Australia, UK, or Western Europe are not eligible for the WMI scholarship.
HOW TO APPLY
If you meet the eligibility criteria, apply for this exciting opportunity! Since 2005, WMI has supported over 700 students worldwide, though in recent years, only about 5% of applicants are selected due to limited funding. WMI encourages applicants to apply and continue searching for other ways to finance their education.
